What Is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. Originally developed for type 2 diabetes management, semaglutide is now studied among weight loss peptides.

GLP-1 is a hormone your body naturally releases after eating. It acts as a signaling molecule, helping regulate appetite and other processes involved in digestion. Semaglutide is designed to mimic that signal.

Once administered, semaglutide binds to GLP-1 receptors in the hypothalamus, a region of the brain involved in appetite regulation. Clinical trials have also reported a lower risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, improvements in blood lipid profiles (measurements of fats in the blood), and reductions in markers of systemic inflammation.
